MILK TRANSPORT BY BODA-BODA, UGANDA

Abesigana Kashari Dairy Cooperative was facing quite a challenge; their milk collection trucks could not get to small scale farmers. Therefore, the milk was not chilled quick enough, which in turn had a big influence of the quality and thus the volume of usable milk. The youth wanted to help farmers to transport the milk to the factory within 24 hours, by helping with milk transportation. The cooperative bought a motorcycle (boda-boda) to support the idea of the youth; collecting fresh milk at small scale farmers with motorcycles. The youth now needs to improve their business plan; how to go from starting small to scaling up their activities, how to share profit, what to do when a driver is ill, who is responsible for what and calculating the break-even point for the investments of the cooperative. Besides that, the cooperative was recommended to install a coach or mentor for the youth to support them.
